Go to an Asian restaurant. Receive a fortune cookie. No-brainer.

At Los Agaves in Illinois, patrons get a little treat with their meal: a 2 ½-inch, brightly colored taco with a fortune inside. The 30-calorie sweets are available in cherry, lemon, lime and strawberry flavors, and they taste like fruit-flavored fortune cookies.
“Most of the people are surprised when they get them. They’re not used to them,” said Oscar Albarado, the restaurant’s general manager.
The fortune tacos, commercially named Lucky Tacos, are manufactured by the Lucky Cookie Co., which is based in Hustisford, Wis.
According to the company’s website, www.theluckycookiecompany.com, the idea for fortune tacos was born at a margarita-dense dinner in Las Vegas in 2004.
The fortunes are printed on small slips of white paper and have a Latin bent. Examples:
“Paco says, ‘How much cents a dollar is worth depends on how much sense the spender has.’”
“Senor Pedro says, ‘If you see a fork in the road, stick it in a potato.’”
“Pablo says, ‘If you can’t see the bright side of life, polish the dull side.’”
“Pedro says, ‘If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.’”
“Senor Pedro says, ‘An opportunity always looks bigger going than coming.’”
Here is one I’d like to submit: “Kathryn says, ‘If you can’t write better fortunes than that, give up.’”
The B-side of the note carries a mini language lesson: the Spanish translation of one English word, such as sad (“triste”), bird (“aves”) and desk (“escritorio”).
“Customers say it’s a neat thing, especially children. They say, ‘I never saw something like this before,’” said Albarado.
The Lucky Cookie Co. is working on its next product: the fortune cannoli. No word yet on whether any local Italian restaurants will carry it.
