Graveside rites for Mary Louise Oakes, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hillcrest Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. David Gardner.

 

Daughter of the late John and Alice (Loyd) Huff, Mary was born at Hartshorne, Oklahoma, December 20, 1939. She and Bryan A. Oakes married March 28, 1961, at Ada. After living in Montana they moved to Ardmore and were teachers in the Ardmore school system. Mary Louise had received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education and taught third grade at Charles Evans Elementary School. She was a member of the Carter County Retired Educators. Mary died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in Ardmore.

 

A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed baking for her family and music. A volunteer at the Southwest Historical Museum, Mary liked doing things outdoors, fishing and feeding animals.

 

Survivors include son, Mike Oakes and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Macie Hartman and Bailey Oakes, all of Ardmore; and sisters, Tish Gibson and Pearl Baldwin of Haileyville, Oklahoma.

 

Her husband, Bryan, preceded her in death, April 2, 2004.

 

Serving as bearers will be Doug Kirk, Lawrence Seger, Kevin Howell, Troy Cain, Rick Teafatiller, Bill Talkington and Terry Key.
