Joyce Dixon "J.D." Butler, age 81, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, in Ardmore, Okla. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest, Ardmore, with Pastor Wayne Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
J.D. was born on January 15, 1931, to Jim W. Butler and Tressie (Webb) Butler in Ardmore, Okla.
He married Miss Lenora Burns on September 15, 1951, in Waurika, Okla.
J.D. was called to serve his country by the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater at Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, achieving the rank of Corporal in artillery. After receiving his honorable discharge, he began working for the city of Ardmore as the construction inspector. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden always sharing his harvest with his family and the community. He was at his happiest when riding on his tractor.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Jay Butler; two sisters, Mary Lee Hutson and Lenora Ann Butler; and two brothers, Frank Butler and Gilbert Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora of the home; son, Mark Dixon Butler and wife, Cheryl of Ardmore, Okla.; six grandchildren, Bambi Dawn Phillips and husband, John, Michelle Hills and husband, Trent, Amanda Vaughan and husband, James, Julie Walker and husband, Ricky, Rachell Butler, all of Ardmore, and Tyler Halter of Sherman, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mary Butler of Ardmore; one brother, Johnny Butler and wife, Carolyn of Ardmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Walker, James Vaughan, Tyler Halter, Warren Hurley, Jimmy Butler and Johnny Earl Butler. Honorary bearers will be McClain Lang, Larry Gay, Michael Caldwell and Kaleb Hurley.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore.
