Glenn Dee Bartgis (known as Dee to all his family and friends), age 79, passed away at his home in Ardmore on Friday, June 21, 2013. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Christ Community Church of Ardmore with Dr. Tim Lehman officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Services under the direction of Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home.

Dee was born December 3, 1933, in Grainola, Okla., to Glenn O. and Valla Bartgis. Shortly after, the family moved to Ardmore, where Dee attended and graduated from Ardmore High in 1951. Dee married the love of his life, Virginia Sue Lee, in 1953, and the two began their journey in life together. Both Dee and Virginia had lots of family in Oklahoma and the two always kept an open door when family needed it. Dee and Virginia started their own family in 1954 with the birth of their first daughter, Deanna. Next came their second daughter, Glenna, and he and Virginia completed their family with twin sons, Garry and Larry.

Dee's career started out working in the family-owned grocery store in Ardmore where he met Harold Holman and went on to form a friendship and partnership with Harold by starting a milk distributorship with Fairmont Foods. During this partnership, Dee was responsible for establishing a successful nursing home that is still operational today. Other business ventures started by Dee included his own private-labeled trucking company called Dee Bartgis Distributor, as well as, raising cattle. Dee loved to hunt, fish and golf. Other interests included sporting events, especially watching Oklahoma City Thunder basketball with his wife, Virginia. Dee loved life and his family. He would always light up anytime his kids, grandkids and friends would come by. He was always there when his family needed him. Dee was charter member of Christ Community Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, member of the Dirty Dozen, and could be found attending his Wednesday "choir" group.

He was preceded in death by his parents, G.O. and Valla Bartgis; twin sister, Delois Reed; and brother, Otis Bartgis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Bartgis; daughter, Deanna Oldham of Ardmore; daughter, Glenna Cathcart and husband, Charles of Ardmore; son, Garry Bartgis and wife, Cathy of Ardmore; and son, Larry Bartgis and wife, Rita of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren, Justin Allen, Ryan Oldham and fiancée, Taylor Riggs, Nick Bartgis and wife, Rachel, Derek Bartgis, Laramie Bartgis, Brian McDonald and Lisa McDonald; great-grandchildren, Trenton Bartgis and Travis Bartgis; sisters, Louella Buttram of Byers, and June Johnston and husband, Dick of Grainola; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glen Burns, Tom Brandt, Everett Morris, Terry Little, W.F. Parrish and Lovell McMillin. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Arnold, Tom White and Dick Johnston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 this evening at Griffin~ Hillcrest, Ardmore.
