Thomas A.C. Pettigrew, 64, passed away on July 15, 2013, in Ardmore. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, with Pastor Donny Custar officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Oaks Cemetery, Enville, Okla.

Thomas was born on Dec. 15, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, to William C. Pettigrew and Jewel (Parks) Stultz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thomas and Gail Jean Gilley met at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, in December 1993. They married on Feb. 18, 1994. Thomas found and met his father in April 2002; he also met his brothers and sisters, a family that he never really had, and they accepted him without any reservations. Thomas, at that point, went to court to legally change his name to Thomas A.C. Pettigrew. Thomas and Gail remarried on Feb. 14, 1998, in order to legally change his wife's last name. During this process, Thomas also discovered his Native American heritage, and was very proud to be Chickasaw. While growing up, he never knew his full ethnicity. He always felt different inside as a boy.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Gail, of the home; stepmother, Emma R. Pettigrew; sisters, Betty Woods and husband, Bud, of Lebanon; Denise Ruth of Ardmore; Darlene Mason and husband, Steve, of Norman, and Diane Pettigrew of Ardmore; brothers Russell Strayhorn and wife, Lorenda, of Durant; Robert "Chief" Pettigrew and wife, Bonnie, of Ardmore, Darrell Pettigrew Sr. of Kingston, Michael D. Pettigrew and wife, Roxane, of Ardmore, and Joe Don Pettigrew and wife, Stacey, of Lone Grove; sister-in-law, Lou Scardino of Pearland, Texas; and mother-in-law, Eunice Gilley.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jr. Pettigrew, Brandon Pettigrew, Aaron Miller, Zakk Pettigrew, Steve Mason and Marcelino Martinez. Honorary bearers will be his brothers.

Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
