Services for Zelma I. Baehl, 93, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with the Reverend Dan Patman officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
Zelma was born on August 11, 1920, at Yale, Okla., to Harvie and Maggie Shockley. She passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Ardmore.
Zelma was raised in Barnsdall, Okla., attended school there, and completed her education at Tulsa's Business College. Zelma married Tom Baehl on October 27, 1944, at Barnsdall. Tom worked for Shell Oil Company. The couple lived in Stroud, Okla., Chelsea, Okla., Caney, Kan., and Healdton, where Zelma worked for Dr. Anthis, and for Helms and Yarborough Realty. Zelma belonged to the Healdton United Methodist Church, and was a member of the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school, and served on the Administration Board. She was also a member of the Auxiliary Volunteers of the Mercy Hospital Healdton, founded an Alzheimer's Support Group and led it for over 10 years. She was a member of the First National Bank First Ladies Club. Zelma was a #1 OU fan, and loved to travel, visiting the Holy Land, Alaska, and many other places. Zelma was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She loved her family, and loved her Lord.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, Harvie and Maggie Shockley; husband, Tom; and sister, Maggie Shockley.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Barton and her husband, Kenneth; son, Joe Baehl and his wife, Cynthia; grandson, Stephen Baehl and his wife, Katie; great-grandson, Ethan Thomas Baehl; and sister, Ida May Brasel and her husband, Doyle.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore.
