Our daddy, James E. Wigington went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, in Celina, Texas, after a long illness.
Daddy was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Carthage, Mo., to A.J. and Mildred (Norman) Wigington; he was the third of nine children. His journey with Mom (Melva Jane Armstrong) began Aug. 10, 1954, and lasted until her death on Dec. 26, 2002. After many years of marriage, they were true examples to Kathy, Karen, Lori and J.P.
Daddy served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1956-59. He attended Decatur Baptist College, Oklahoma Baptist University and received his Master of Theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was licensed to preach in 1961. Daddy's calling in life was to share the gospel through ministry. He pastored many Southern Baptist Churches in Oklahoma from 1965 until his retirement in 2005. He was involved in prison ministry, teaching seminary extension classes and went on many mission trips abroad. Daddy served as interim pastor in churches after his retirement.
Daddy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melva; grandson Elzie James Cain; parents A.J. and Mildred; sister Janet; and brothers Philip, David, Larry and John Wigington.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy and her husband, Jerry Curtis, of Choctaw; grandchildren Melanie and Jason; great-grandchildren Michael, Kyla, Katie and Adara; daughter Karen and her husband, Trevor Viljoen, of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren Sasha and Lauren; daughter Lori Cain of Wilson; granddaughters Heather and Kandice; great-grandsons Michel, Justin and Weston; son James Phillip and wife, Kathy, of Midwest City; grandchildren Ariel, Hailey and Tristan; sister Jean Ann Freeman of Nevada; brother Don and his wife, Pat, of Arkansas; sister Pam and her husband, Lyle Rhodes, of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff at Settlers Ridge Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice for the care they gave Daddy during his illness.
