Murray State College is expanding.

This fall, MSC will open a retail book and gift store in downtown Ardmore. This comes after four years of success with a similar store in downtown Tishomingo.

MSC President Joy McDaniel says the college is devoted to the economic development and cooperation of the community of which it is a part. As half of all students who attend Murray live in the Ardmore area, it just made sense to extend “Murray on Main” to the city.

“Our biggest goal is to compliment the goods and services already being provided downtown,” McDaniel said.

The store will sell books, Murray State gifts and clothing, and a wide range of other products, including home décor and trendy clothes. It may include a study area for students, and a reception area for special events.

The school may also choose to lease some of the extra space upstairs for office space, but the tremendous amount of space within the building holds exciting potential for future use, McDaniel says.

“We have thought about having an art gallery in the back room, or maybe a computer lab, but right now, we don’t exactly know what we want to use it for,” says McDaniel.

The store will be located in the old Texoma Office Supply building across from Ten Star Pizza Kitchen, and Bar 115, and though it will not open in time for the back-to-school-rush, McDaniel says students will be able to use their scholarship or grant money to purchase anything in the store.

The bookstore currently at the University Center of Southern Oklahoma will be converted into office space for the faculty at the college.
