Hermorene Jackson Hayes, 79, of Ardmore passed away at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 7:11 p.m.

Hermorene Jackson Hayes was born on April 21, 1935, to Corrine (Turner) Lockhart and Jimmy Jackson in Ardmore. She married Joe Frank Hayes Sr. in Arizona in the summer of 1950. Hermorene attended Douglass School in Ardmore.

Hermorene spent her life motivating and inspiring others. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. “Hermie” was always watching The Food Network and cooking new and exotic dishes. One of her greatest passions was singing at church, with her family, and East Main Church singing group. She had a very vivid imagination and a great sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Corrine Lockhart; father, Jimmy Jackson; ex-husband, Joe Frank Hayes Sr.; sister Ella Mae Jackson; brother Johnny Jackson; brother William Allen Sr.; sister-in-law Ponsetta Allen; son Joe Frank Hayes Jr.; son Carl Hendrix; son Emory Hayes; son-in-law C.J. Douglas; two stillborn children; granddaughter Jacquelyn Radonna Burkhalter; granddaughter Danielle Douglas; and grandson Randall Douglas Burkhalter.

Family left to celebrate her life are her daughter, Darrene Douglas; daughter Jacquelyn Pirtle; son-in-law Winston (Durrell) Pirtle; son Clifford Hayes; daughter Regina Aaron-Demonbreun; son-in-law Donald Demonbreun; sister-in-law Evelyn Henderson; and aunt Lillian (Hayes) Roberts.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at McLish Avenue Church of Christ, 607 McLish SW. Viewing of the body will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Grant-Owens Funeral Home, 515 E. Main St., Ardmore.
