Donald Worth Shugart, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, July 7, 2014, at his rural Springer residence following an extended illness. He was born to the late Clint Henry Shugart and Ruby Marie Campbell Shugart on Oct. 1, 1935, at Austin, Texas.

He and Bobbie Ann Holland were married Aug. 26, 1957, at Ardmore, and this year would have celebrated their 57th anniversary.

Don’s wife, Bobbie Ann Shugart, and their three children, Vicki Heflin and husband Jerry, Donald W. Shugart II and Susan Shugart, along with Don’s brother, J.T. Shugart, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive his home going, and will forever cherish precious memories.

At the age of 17, Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and after serving for four years during the Korean War, was honorably discharged. He then joined the U. S. Air Force, and became an air traffic controller. Following his four-year Air Force enlistment, Don began a career with the Federal Aviation Administration, and was an air traffic controller specialist. He worked with the FAA until retiring. An expert rifleman, Don enjoyed sport shooting.

After serving two enlistments in two different branches of military service and service with the Federal Aviation Administration, Donald Worth Shugart can truthfully be called “An American Hero.”
