State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister helped present awards recently to more than 120 students and educators at the 25th annual Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence. Held April 23 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, the event is an opportunity to recognize high school juniors and seniors and arts educators who have achieved excellence in the arts.


“I strongly believe there is a correlation between art and achievement,” said Hofmeister. “I offer my heartfelt congratulations to this year’s winners. Their creativity is making a sizable and positive difference in our state.”


Four educators were also honored:


Dr. Pamela Deering, School Administrator Award — Superintendent, Midwest City-Del City Public Schools


Mike Martin, School Administrator Award— Superintendent, Davis Public Schools


Marsha Carman, Fine Arts Educator Award — Visual Art Weatherford High School


Patricia Ann Duncan, Fine Arts Educator Award — Music Nathan Hale High School, Tulsa
