Edward John Melkovitz Jr., 67, of Mannsville, Okla., passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, at his home in Mannsville. He was born on July 21, 1947, in Stuttgart, Ark., to the late Edward John Melkovitz and Rena Mae Cox Melkovitz.
John was raised in Slovak, Ark., and was later drafted into the U.S. Army. He lived in Ardmore before moving to Mannsville in 1980 where he lived the rest of his life. John married Wanda Jo Marrow on April 24, 1982, in Mannsville. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1999. He worked as a welder for several years and was a member of the NRA and the American Legion. John enjoyed camping, collecting guns, traveling and his family.
He is survived by his loving companion, Betty Palmer, Mannsville; children, Denisa Melkovitz Bates and husband, Roger, Bethany, Okla., and Bobbi Sue Willis and husband, James, Enville, Okla.; five grandchildren, Roger Melkovitz, Desiree Melkovitz Powell and husband, Joshua, Robert Melkovitz, Brandon Sliger and wife, Jordyne and Ethan Sliger; great-grandchild, Daxtyn Sliger; and sister-in-law, Jimmie McDaniel, Mannsville.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Richard “Dickey” and Steven Melkovitz.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home, Madill.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Watts Memorial Chapel, Madill. Roger Hartwell will officiate the service. Interment will be at the Lone Cedar Cemetery, Mannsville. Military Honors by U.S. Army.
Casket bearers: Billy Ray Dorer, Jerry Bivins, Roger Melkovitz, Robert Melkovitz, Roger Bates, James Willis, Blake Hartwell and Doug Jones.
Honorary bearers: Brandon Sliger, Ethan Sliger and Braxton Bivins.
