APD Chief Ken Grace confirmed Sunday a patrol officer had been involved in a shooting that claimed the life of a white male  at a southeast side residence.
Grace said the officer responded to the 1000 block of Bailey Street to a report of someone ingesting rat poison. When he arrived he encountered the suspect who was ultimately shot and killed.
Neither the officer nor the suspect was immediately identified. Grace did confirm the officer has been placed on paid leave pending outcome of the investigation.
“We have turned this over to the OSBI. All further statements will have to come from them,” Grace said.
The incident took place at 10 a.m. Sunday.
