1. Young readers can enjoy an afternoon movie at the Davis Public Library this Tuesday. An adventure film will be shown at 3:30 p.m. and refreshments will be provided by library staff.

2. Area schools are beginning academic classes this week. Dickson, Marietta, Turner and Zaneis begins school on Wednesday. On Thursday, students at Springer, Greenville, Davis, Mannsville and Fox will headed back to class. Be aware of returning traffic to school areas in the mornings and afternoons.

3. This week is the time to get registered or buy tickets for two upcoming events. The Miracles in Action 5K/1 mile run is set for Saturday morning, but today is the final day to register. The event, which takes place at Regional Park, benefits Adam’s Cape, an organization with a mission to help children with medical needs or crisis. Precious Pearls will host a Masquerade Ball at the Ardmore Garden Club Saturday night, but tickets are on sale this week. Precious Pearls is an organization for young women that teaches leadership, community service, career and future development.

4. This Friday, the Ardmore Parks and Recreation’s Movie in the Park event returns. At dusk, “Big Hero 6” will be shown at Regional Park. Movie goers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for the outdoor event.

5. Ardmore softball opens its season Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a game against Lexington. Dickson’s season opener is at home, a 5 p.m. start against Ringling today.
