Ardmore native, FloRay McCullar Atkinson, 95, passed away peacefully at Bon Secours Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, Fla., Monday, Aug. 31, 2015. Daughter of the late J.J.B. McCullar Sr. and Lila (Smith) Atkinson, FloRay was born June 29, 1920, at Ardmore. She grew up in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School in the class of 1938.
Married to John Wesley Atkinson, they were the parents of four children, Jerrell, John, Ronald and Lila Gay. In 1980, John preceded her in death.
After leaving Ardmore in the 1950s, FloRay lived in Albuquerque, N.M., for 50-years prior to moving to Tampa, Fla., in 2002. In Tampa she was a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church.
For the last two years of her life, she lived in Bon Secours Maria Manor, a wonderful skilled nursing facility, where she received the best of care and won the hearts of all those that cared for her each day. During the last two weeks, she was under the warm and professional care of Suncoast Hospice of St. Petersburg.
Survivors include three sons, John M. Atkinson, Tampa, Fla., Jerrell A. Atkinson, Mineola, Texas, and Ronald C. Atkinson, Castle Rock, Colo.; daughter, Lila Gay Willmarth, Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, J.J.B. McCullar Jr.
Graveside rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at Rose Hill Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Dan Patman.
