Oklahoma Baptist bounced back from a 6-0 deficit in the final set and handed Eckerd its first loss of the young season, scoring a 3-2 win at Nova Southeastern’s Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
OBU won 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26 and 15-13.
Eckerd rolled off the first six points in the fifth set and had an 8-3 lead before OBU sprung back from the hole.
Kate Decker got a kill, Priscilla Mendes and Cadyn Lang got a block and Mended added a kill to make it an 8-6 game. OBU would tie it, 8-8, with a Cat Roth ace.
Down 10-9, OBU scored the next three points, including a solo block by Lang and a duo block by Lang and Decker, for a 12-10 OBU lead.
Lang added another kill before Denise Coroiescu finished off the match with a kill after an assist by Kynnedy Myers.
Lang had 13 kills with Decker and Mendes adding 11 each. Myers finished the match with 45 assists.
Lang led the front line defense with two solo blocks and four block assists. Kaitlyn Lucy had a team-high 17 digs, followed by Shekinah Sharpe with 15, Coroiescu with 13 and Carey Strong with 10.
OBU improved to 3-0 with the win.
