NORMAN — Joe Fred Nolen, 75, of Norman died peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 10, 2015. He was born Aug. 11, 1940, in Ardmore, to John Davis Nolen and Ava Alberta (Kincannon) Nolen.
Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynda Lee (Earhart) Nolen; his son, Daniel Craig Nolen; sister, Elaine Pardee; and nieces and nephews.
Fred said it best "I am thankful that Lynda and Craig love me. Lynda has never asked for anything she knew I would have a hard time giving her and many times turned down things I wanted her to have. She was good and kind enough to always answer the question "How do you put up with him?" the same way. "He makes me laugh ... a lot." You can't get much better than that."
Fred and Craig shared a business together. His coolest memories with Craig were backstage passes to several Allman Brothers concerts. He thought that was cooler than driving to school when he was 14 in his 1938 Plymouth.
Fred felt lucky growing up in Ardmore, living in Norman, graduating from the University of Oklahoma and laughing with lots of friends. He loved great writers, art and music. He felt fortunate to have been mentored by very smart men; traveling places he never dreamed of seeing; and especially having a son who had his back. Fred had mastered the art of making Aunt Bill's Candy, increasing his friends at Christmas time. He loved his granddogs.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to McCortney Family Hospice, 620 N. Porter, Norman, OK 73071; The Alzheimer's Association, 2123 N. Classen Boulevard, Oklahoma City, OK 73100 or a charity of your choice.
