AMidwest City man died Thursday when the car he was driving crashed into a truck halted in traffic on Interstate 35 due to construction.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Thomas Cain, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiner investigator John Miller.
Cain was southbound in a 2005 dodge near mile marker 55, 3 miles west of Davis when he drove into the rear of a 2012 International, driven by David Brassfield, 61, Oklahoma City. The patrol said Brassfeld’s truck was stopped about 12:40 p.m. in the outside lane of I-35 due to traffic congestion near a construction zone.
Cain was pinned in the wreckage for about an hour. He was freed by Davis firefighters.
Brassfield was not injured.
Cause of the fatal accident was listed as failure to stop for traffic, but portions of the investigation remained ongoing early Thursday evening.
Trooper Brian McGill, HP Troop F Garvin/Murray County Detachment investigated the crash. He was assisted at the scene by other troopers, the Murray County Sheriff’s Department and the Davis Fire Department.
