Davis High School’s BreeAnna Curtis, Brady Vinyard, Caleb Hall, Randall Aders, Denver White, Austin Boydston and Mason Lee brought home the academic regional championship Nov. 14 in Bennington.
“I am so proud of my players for never giving up and persevering in the game that counted the most,” coach Amanda Rogers said. “Never giving up paid off.”
Davis won rounds against Latta, Dibble and Frederick. Beating Latta by one point was a sweet victory for Davis after losing to them twice by one point at previous contests.
“Our main goal was to beat Latta,” Rogers said with a laugh. “We are super excited.”
The top four teams advance to the area contest Jan. 16 in Healdton. This is Rogers’ fourth year to coach and second to take a team to area.
“It was a great stepping stone,” Caleb Hall, Davis team member and senior, said.
Other local teams made progress this season as well.
“Every year since we formed our academic team we’ve improved,” Springer High School team coach, Scott Sasser said. “This was the first year we went to regionals. This was the first year we won a round at regionals. We’re improving. I’m proud of my team.”
Springer’s Decoda Morriss, Mykayla Brewer, Meg Meyer, Ryan Roland, Miles Cunningham, Bailey Cox and Garrett McGuire beat Bennington and lost to Winota and Boswell teams. Members rotate to compete in different rounds, with four allowed to participate at a time.
Fox High School’s Payton Keithley, Madison Tivis, Trenton Fletcher and Morgan Phelps also participated in regionals. They were beaten by Vanoss and Wilson.
