Assistance available for residents impacted by April 2024 tornadoes

Catholic Charities Disaster Case Management is currently assisting individuals affected by the tornadoes that struck Carter, Love, and Murray counties on April 27th, 2024. Survivors with remaining related damage or unmet needs and who lack resources to fully recover from these tornados are encouraged to contact Catholic Charities Case Management at (405) 465-3808. Callers should leave their name, number, and a brief description of how they were impacted.

Case Management services include assisting survivors in managing processes with FEMA, SBA, and insurance providers. Referrals to Legal Aid are also available for legal assistance. Disaster Case Managers work closely with survivors to understand their situation, assess household resources, identify unmet needs, and determine repairs required to restore stable living conditions. Financial assistance may be available to help survivors rebuild after all other funding resources have been exhausted.

In response to the April 2024 tornadoes, community members formed the Long-Term Recovery Fund to raise money to help individuals rebuild their lives beyond the initial phase of disaster relief. Funds may be utilized to assist those impacted with expenses incurred after the disaster including construction costs, furnishings, and job displacement. The United Way of South-Central Oklahoma serves as the fiscal agent for the Long-Term Recovery Fund.

After insurance, FEMA, and SBA funding options have been exhausted, Catholic Charities Disaster Case Management submits individual cases to be reviewed for funding consideration to the Recovery Housing Committee – a local volunteer group of funders, contractors, and community members who work together to repair homes. The Long-Term Recovery Fund is proud to partner with Catholic Charities and the Recovery Housing Committee to support unmet needs across south-central Oklahoma.
