Ardmore Chamber Ambassadors’ top reasons to join the chamber

A few years ago, I asked the Ardmore Chamber Ambassadors to list their top reason to become a member of the Chamber of Commerce. They all gave excellent reasons and we published those in this column. We recently asked this question again of both our new and our tenured Ambassadors, and while there were a few changes, they all agreed with the original list and we thought it would be good to share these once again: 1. The networking opportunities with other local businesses help your business grow 2. The continued development of new places to shop, eat, entertain, and spend time with family and friends, all while connecting new customers to these destinations 3. Having a Chamber newsletter and website to find business leads and showcase our own business, plus gather information on the community we live and work in 4. Invitations to seminars, luncheons, and activities that will improve all business, community, and civic performance 5. The Chamber works with many different organizations such as non-profits and those that encourage our future leaders to be active; an example is FUEL and their various events throughout the year 6. Having a representative’s voice at a local and state level from the Chamber that will support business growth and keep up with legislative affairs and new laws that might affect your business 7. The Chamber is an information source on what you can do to help your community or a source of support when you need help 8. Having an organization which constantly looks at future ways to keep our community growing by not allowing the town to stagnate and deteriorate 9. By supporting the development of more places to work and a variety of places to work, the local labor force is promoted 10. Joining the Chamber brings credibility to your organization 11. You probably would not be in business if it hadn’t been for what the Chamber has done in the past to make Ardmore what it is today If you are considering Chamber Membership for your business, I invit

October is a great time to garden in Oklahoma

Fall is one of the most beautiful times in the garden, yet most people garden in spring, then summer, then fall — in that order. The benefits of fall gardening are that the days are cooler and the humidity is less. The leaves are changing colors, trees and shrubs have colorful berries, salvias and sages are in full bloom, and the birds are busier than ever. Roses, asters, salvias, ornamental grasses and autumn sages are giving lots of color to the landscape, and we don’t have to drag hoses as often just to keep them alive.
