Last week marked the 50th anniversary of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. For the past five decades, Title IX has protected women in educational programs from discrimination on the basis of sex. The law applies to all educational programs that receive federal funding and covers admissions, financial aid, sexual harassment, athletic facilities, and much more. Since its implementation, the percentage of female high school graduates who enroll in college has gone from 43 percent to 71 percent today.

ARDMORE – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Ardmore Public Library a $10,000 grant to support adult literacy. This local grant is part of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s recent award of $10.5 million donation to support summer, family, and adult literacy programs, representing the organization’s largest one-day grant donation in its 29-year history. In addition to this grant, the Ardmore Public Library was selected as the Dollar General Southwest Distribution Center’s favorite non-profit and was gifted $7,500 to also be used for adult literacy efforts. Funds awarded the library will be used to support their English Language Learning classes and citizenship program.
