Summer watering is critical to plant survival

This summer has had unusual weather even for Oklahoma. The last few summers, June has been so rainy I published articles on how to handle too much water. This year, June has been extremely hot with only a few showers of rain. It absolutely feels more like August, and it isn’t even officially summer yet for another month. I really hope this isn’t going to be the norm for the rest of the summer.

Please join Champion Public Library for “Stories from the Core,” Sarah Ahmad’s state-wide art project that invites you to take a piece of it with you! “Stories from the Core” uses digitally collaged photographs of Oklahoma’s majestic landscape to solicit healing connections with nature. Sarah Ahmad’s art cards pair mesmerizing images with meditative prompts, written by Maryam Ahmad. The project invites Oklahomans from all backgrounds to share stories of grief with each other and with the land. The libraries hosting “Stories from the Core” are near one of the public parklands featured in the landscape collage. The artwork bears witness to mourning and invites people to open themselves to hope.

Review: ‘The House on the Lake’ is a wild, improbable ride

In “The House Across the Lake” a woman staying in a cottage on a remote Vermont lake spends hours drinking heavily and spying on her neighbors with a pair of binoculars. Soon, she becomes convinced that a man living in a house directly across the lake is gradually poisoning his supermodel wife. When the model goes missing, she suspects he has succeeded. Defying police orders to butt out, she tries to investigate herself with unexpected results. Associated Press reviewer Bruce DeSilva says Riley Sager’s sixth novel has so many weird twists that some readers may find it too improbable to swallow.
