National Sand Bass Festival returns

Food vendors feed Sand Bass Festival attendees on Friday, June 11, 2021. The family festival returns this week and will run through Saturday at the Courthouse Square in Madill . During the week, arts and crafts vendors and the carnival will open every evening at 5:00 p.m., and live musical entertainment will take place on the stage. Prize-winning Texas drama teacher to get special Tony Award

NEW YORK (AP) — The special Tony Award that honors educators will go to a drama teacher in Texas who argues that “musical theater has a unique way of bringing people together.” Roshunda Jones-Koumba, the theater director at G.W. Carver Magnet High School in Houston will receive the 2022 Excellence in Theatre Education Award on June 12 at the Tony Awards in New York City.

Judge denies bond for rapper Young Thug in RICO case

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia judge denied bond Thursday evening for Atlanta rapper Young Thug, who’s accused of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act and participation in a criminal street gang. Fulton County Judge Ural Glanville handed down the ruling saying he has significant concerns about the entertainer, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, being a danger to the community, news outlets reported.

Police: Man smashes ancient museum artifacts worth millions

DALLAS (AP) — A man broke into the Dallas Museum of Art and caused more than $5 million in damage, including smashing three ancient Greek artifacts before he was arrested, police said. Brian Hernandez, 21, is charged with criminal mischief of more than or equal to $300,000, which is punishable by five years to life in prison.
