ANB scholarship recipients announced

The American Nation Bank Scholarship program began in 1995 in order to give back to the communities they serve and help area students achieve their dreams of higher education. The ANB Scholarship is a one year, $1,000 scholarship of which they have now awarded $315,000 in scholarships. In 2016, ANB initiated their “Pays for A’s” program where students from grade 6 through grade 12 can be paid for each “A” on their report card. In addition to being paid for each “A”, all grade 12 students who participated in the “Pays for A’s” program during grade 12 are eligible for a random drawing for a $1,000 “Pays for A’s” scholarship.

Springtime is a great time for landscaping

Last week it was almost too hot and windy to work outside without following the shade, and then Mother Nature threw in some storms and hail to liven things up since it is Oklahoma. This week it’s so cold, wet, and windy that we want to sit in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot tea and look at the new weeds the rains brought. While we have plenty of at-home time since it’s finally raining, it’s a good time to think about our landscapes and do some planning for when we can get outside. This year may be the opportunity to work on making our yards and our landscapes a more welcoming, beautiful place to enjoy and appreciate nature. If you are landscaping a new home or adding to and renovating older plantings, here are a few points to consider.

Conniving boyfriend sabotages longtime friendship with lies

DEAR ABBY: I have a gay friend I’ll call “Allen.” We have been close friends for 13 years. Allen has visited me often with his friends from England, and two years ago, when I could finally afford to visit him, he invited me to stay in the home he shares with his boyfriend, “Rupert.” Rupert took an instant dislike to me. He treated me rudely and mocked my American accent the entire time I was there. I let it be and concentrated on the beautiful scenery, the beautiful people I met and my longtime friend.

Sale of long-lost ‘Wizard of Oz’ dress put on hold by judge

NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has blocked the planned auction of one of the blue-and-white dresses Judy Garland wore as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.” It was put up for sale by Catholic University of America after being rediscovered there in a shoebox during a renovation. The dress was given to a priest in the 1970s, and his niece has sued the school and the auctioneer, saying it belongs to her. A U.S. district judge granted a motion for a preliminary injunction Monday after a hearing in her lawsuit. The auctioneer listed a presale estimate of $800,000 to $1.2 million for the dress before it was withdrawn.
