Plainview High School Choir takes home sweepstakes award
The Plainview High School Choir recently took home the OSSA Sweepstakes Award after participating in the state competition at Oklahoma Baptist University on March 31. This is the highest achievement a high school choir can make in the state and the first time Plainview has won in over two decades.
SouthernTech gathers 2,000 clothing items for Community Youth Services
The SkillsUSA Campus Officers at SouthernTech have been working on a community project with the Community Youth Services of Southern Oklahoma (CYS) to help boys and girls ages 0 to 18 with items they need. SkillsUSA contacted CYS to ask them what items they needed the most. They said they were currently sheltering only boys and were running low on boys’ clothing. From there, every SouthernTech program and student organization including SkillsUSA, HOSA and BPA collectively worked together to create a clothing drive for the boys at the shelter.

Governor Stitt proclaimed Tuesday as Oklahoma National Guard Appreciation Day and we held our annual joint session to honor the men and women of our state’s 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, “The Thunderbirds.” These brave Oklahomans step up during natural disasters in our state and nation like floods and tornadoes as well as foreign conflicts, dating back to World War II and Korea through the ongoing Global War on Terror. They also help during other emergencies, like throughout the pandemic, when many worked in short-staffed hospitals and nursing homes to provide medical care, sanitation, and other assistance as needed. Our state currently has more than 8,000 of these “citizen soldiers” who are always prepared and waiting to serve in whatever capacity needed.
