Betty Jo McCullers

Betty Jo McCullers, 94, of Bedford, TX and formerly of Marietta, OK, passed from this life on September 12, 2022. She was born on October 19, 1927 in Marietta, one of nine children born to James Madison “J.M.” and Noma Jane (Simons) Hill.

Betty grew up in Marietta and graduated from Marietta High School. After graduation, she began working as a teller in the banking industry. Betty married the love of her life David Eugene McCullers on November 4, 1945 in Marietta. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2017, six months shy of their 72nd wedding anniversary. Betty and Dave made their home in Ardmore where they raised their two sons, David Wayne and Timothy Joe. In 1968 they moved to Irving, TX until her retirement from banking in the mid 1980’s. They returned to Ardmore to enjoy their retirement. In 2011, they moved in with their son in Bedford.

Betty didn’t have many hobbies in life, but one thing she did enjoy was shopping. She was known by her family as a “professional shopper.” Betty knew that true quality of life was measured by the love she gave and the ability to love and appreciate the simple things in life. Although Betty enjoyed shopping, she loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Left behind to cherish her legacy are her son, David Wayne McCullers and wife Anne of Bedford; daughter-in-law, Loretta McCullers of Ardmore; brother, Huck “Tex” Hill of Dallas, TX; sister, Pat Connelly of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Michael McCullers, Jennifer Jay, Randy McCullers, and Amy Billups; nine great-grandchildren; and two (plus one on-the-way) great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, David McCullers; her parents, J.M. and Noma Hill; her son, Tim McCullers; brothers, Woody Hill, James Hill, and Dink Hill; and sisters, Virginia Freeman, Mary Taylor, and Neva Engelhardt.

Casket bearers are Sam Yeager, Ben Yeager, Grant Yeager, Mike McCullers, Brian Jay, and Andy Billups. Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Flanagan- Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Custar officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marietta.
