The results are in from Tuesday’s election. While technically a Republican primary, the winner of these primaries will take the office as no Democrats registered to run for these offices.
According to the Oklahoma Voters Portal, the race for Carter County Sheriff ended in a tie with both incumbent Chris Bryant and challenger DJ Long receiving 2,569 votes.
These numbers are the unofficial totals and do not include any provisional ballots. The votes still must be certified by the election board which will be done by 5 p.m. Friday. The Ardmoreite is currently researching the procedure if the votes stay at a tie.
The race for County Commissioner for District 2 was also incredibly close, and will be heading to a runoff on August 27 between Owen Longest and Kalub Miller. Longest received the most votes with 553 or 38.43% and Miller received 491 or 34.12%. Incumbent Bill Baker was defeated receiving 395 votes or 27.45%.
The race for Carter County Clerk, however, had a clear winner with Kelly Brawley receiving 3,550 votes to Lindsey Armstrong’s 1,429.
The race for State Representative District 48 went to incumbent Tammy Townley who received 2,244 votes across the district to challenger April Long’s 1,451.
The proposition to renew the 1/8 cent sales tax to benefit county fire departments passed with 4,630 votes or 71.79%.
The proposition for the Town of Springer stating the Town Clerk/Treasurer shall be approved by the Board of Trustees passed with 81 votes or 64.8%.
