It’s Friday night. If you are not going to Norman for the OU season opener, go out and support your local high school as they open the football season. Whether it be the team, band or cheerleaders, the kids have been putting the work in and deserve your support.

Local author Haley Lyn Crites will celebrate a personal journey with a book signing at the Ardmore Public Library. She will sign her book, "Beautiful Beginnings, My Yoga Journal," at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Books will be available for purchase.

The Party for the Plaza @ The Artesian will be from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday in Sulphur. Advance tickets for the event are $10 and available at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce, Vision Bank Sulphur and Vision Bank Davis along with BancFirst and 1NB. Those performing include Jaylin Pike, Dirt Road Limousine, Bryson Sales & Reagan Watson along with Sandra DeVault and TJ Todd Band. The event is to build back and enhance Sulphur’s downtown plaza area.

Aviation and caffeine will be a winning combination at the Ardmore Municipal Airport Saturday morning. Airplanes and Coffee will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity to get a close up look at airplanes, visit with pilots and drink some free coffee. There will also be free discovery flights available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The municipal airport is located at Ardmore Airpark.

This event needs no introduction. The 11th Annual United Way BBQ Showdown presented by Valero is this weekend. The event at Regional Park begins Friday with Cajun Night, which will be from 5 to 10 p.m. and feature live music and a corn hole tournament. Saturday will feature the BBQ Showdown from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a pickleball tournament starting at 8 a.m. Tickets are $10 per person each day and $5 per child 10 years and under.

Put on the hat and boots this weekend and head to the Hardy Murphy Coliseum for the PRCA Pro Rodeo. The event will start at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $13 prior to the event and are available at Jimmy’s Western Wear and HTea0 in Ardmore. They will be $15 at the door, which will open at 6 p.m. each night. Ages 5-and-under are free along with 75-and-older.
