Clay Anthony Sampson, 61, of Marietta passed away on July 7, 2022. Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Cross and Crown Chapel in Marietta. Cremation under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home of Marietta.

His Story

John J. Wilson or “Buster” as he was known by his family was born June 22, 1948, in Springer, Oklahoma, to John (JC) and Anna Mae McGee Wilson. He passed away on June 29, 2022, at age 74, after a long and courageous battle with Prostate Cancer. John lived in Springer during his childhood and teenage years, graduating as Salutatorian of the 1966 Springer High School graduating class. Following High School, he attended Oklahoma State University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1970. He started his professional career as an educator in the Oklahoma City Public School District, where he taught English at Jackson Junior High and John Marshall High School. After teaching for 3 years, John decided to make a career change and he took a position with Sirloin Stockade Restaurants. After a few years in management, John followed his entrepreneurial spirit and decided to open Greenbriar’s Delicatessen in Lawrence, Kansas in 1976. John continued to expand his ventures and in 1978 purchased the Sirloin Stockade restaurant in Lawrence. John and his wife Kathy made the decision to leave Lawrence in 1983 and return to Oklahoma City where they started a family. They adopted two children, Whitney in 1991 and Patrick in 1994.

Janet Faye (Gibbs) Rainbolt

Janet Faye (Gibbs) Rainbolt, age 88, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, July 10, 2022, in Ardmore, Okla. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 16, 2022, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Janet was born and raised in the hills around Petersburg, KY on May 1, 1934, to Robert Gibbs and Elsie (Birkle) Gibbs. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO, for her dad’s health where she graduated from High School and was spotted in the church choir by Herbert Rainbolt who quickly decided she was the one for him. They were married June 15, 1952, and reached their 70th anniversary milestone before her “home-going.” Janet spent these years as a marvelous homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was a creative artist, craftswoman, and expert seamstress, sewing both daughters’ wedding dresses and suits for her son and husband. She crocheted and knitted prayer shawls and caps for people who were struggling with illness. She knew the names of many flowers and created beautiful flower gardens. She was an avid reader and Bible student and taught Sunday School for over 35 years.

Patricia Ann (Stracner) West, age 84, passed away on July 10, 2022, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 14, 2022, at New Hope Church of God, Ardmore, Okla. with Pastor Robert Peterson officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

William Gene “Bill” Mayo

William Gene “Bill” Mayo, 88, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma surrounded by his family. Bill was born on May 11, 1934, to George Washington Mayo and Lorene (Brown) Mayo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He moved with his grandmother, Willie Bowers, to Sulphur, Oklahoma in 1948 and graduated Sulphur High School with the class of 1952.
