Combatting the fentanyl crisis

Wednesday, August 31, was National Overdose Awareness Day, and I want to take this time to discuss the recent surge of fentanyl analogues and the danger they pose to our communities. Fentanyl is a controlled substance. However, illicit fentanyl production is the primary driver of our record- breaking numbers. Fentanyl abuse has become more prevalent and more dangerous in recent years due to “fentanyl analogues” and “fentanyl-related substances,” which are similar in chemical makeup but far more powerful.

Atlanta prosecutor: Gang targeted celebrities, influencers

ATLANTA (AP) — A prosecutor on Monday announced a sprawling indictment targeting members of what she said is a violent street gang that has been targeting the Atlanta area homes of famous athletes, entertainers and others who flaunt expensive possessions on social media. Singer Mariah Carey, Marlo Hampton of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Atlanta United player Brad Guzan and the Atlanta Falcons’ Calvin Ridley all had their homes broken into, the indictment says.

Don’t bogart that initiative petition, my friend

While the general election is rapidly approaching, one state question seems to have been moving at a snail’s pace. After a spring challenge of State Question 820’s “gist” that took a couple of months to resolve, supporters of this initiative petition legalizing recreational marijuana again find themselves in front of the Oklahoma Supreme Court after a third-party state contractor validated that their signature submissions met the threshold to qualify for the Nov.

Biden’s student loan bailout

Last week, President Joe Biden unveiled a plan to unilaterally erase a wide swath of certain federal student loan debts. Not only is such action completely unfair to millions of Americans who do not have student loans or already paid them off, but it will also add hundreds of billions of dollars more to the national debt. This move will ultimately drive our country deeper into a recession in the days and months ahead and could permanently damage the American psyche for generations to come.
