Construction with the City of Ardmore received a much-needed boost during the month of August.
Commercial and residential construction spearheaded a solid $6,978,269 in construction value during the month. The tabulation brought the city up to $36,732,763 for the year.
“The last couple of months have been better and more construction is coming,” Community Development Director Jessica Scott said.
Permits were filed for nine new homes, seven of which will be on the Indian Plains Road development. The other two homes will be located at 2nd Ave. SE and 3rd Ave. SW.
Construction work at 2630 N. Commerce has garnered attention. The site will be the home of the new Allsup’s Convenience Store, which has a construction value of $750,000. A permit was filed with a construction value of $1.5 million for a medical plaza, which will be located at 1815 N. Rockford Road. It will include a medical office along with three rental spaces.
A permit with a commercial value of $500,000 was filed for a duplex at 1116 and 1120 Blackjack Drive. Another notable permit was turned in by the City of Ardmore for the new playground and improvements at Whittington Park. It carries a cash value of $447,000.
Under residential repairs, renovations, additions and alterations, there were two permits filed for the rebuilding of homes damaged in the spring tornado. There were also 11 permits, each with a cash valuation of $10,000, filed by East Ardmore Revitalization as part of its home rehab program.
Under commercial repairs, renovations, additions and alterations, a permit with a cash valuation of $650,000 was filed for a truck storage facility for Premier Truck Group. A permit with a cash valuation of $150,000 was filed for 1420 Veterans Blvd., which will be the home for Work Ready Oklahoma.
Mercy Hospital Ardmore also filed a permit with a cash valuation of $195,000 for medical offices.
In terms of future growth within the city, Scott said a restaurant chain, Cantina Lime Cocina and Copas, intends to move into the location on 12th Ave. that previously housed Cotton Patch and Ted’s Tacos and Cantina. There are Cantina Lime locations in Denison and Anna, Texas.
Scott said Epic still has interest in locating a Microsite in the city.
“Epic is still looking at Ardmore,” Scott said. “They have reached out and would still love to come to our community. We would love to have them here. We are in the process of helping them scout a location.”
Also, during the month of August, there were 235 construction inspections, and nine citations issued. There were 316 new weed and grass complaints, up from 166 in August 2023. Community Services reported 70 dilapidated structures, and 54 vehicles parked on the grass. There were four zoning violations and 107 miscellaneous code violations.
Animal Control received 187 complaints and reported six dog bites. A total of 79 animals were impounded and four citations were issued.
