Fred Allen Kana

Lincoln, ME- Fred Allen Kana, 72, of Lincoln, Maine, departed from this life on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Augusta, Maine at the Togus VA Hospital with his family by his side. He was born April 23, 1950 to the late Joe Fred Kana and Avie Lea (Hughes) Kana in Corpus Christi, Texas. Cremation services have been performed and a graveside service with military honors will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Ardmore on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 10am. Fred was primarily raised in Healdton where he graduated with the Class of 1968. He also resided in Karnes City, Texas and Comanche, Oklahoma in his early childhood. After graduation, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. Upon receiving his bachelor’s degree, he enlisted in the United States Navy to proudly serve his country for six years. During this time, he married Linda Henton of Healdton and had three children, Cheri, Justin and Alyssa. After returning from Vietnam, Fred earned his master’s degree from Golden Gate University while still in the service. Fred and Linda returned to Healdton after his enlistment, and he began work in the oilfield. He was actively involved in the community serving in several civic organizations and being heavily involved with youth sports and Healdton Schools serving as a board member, lay coach and the voice of the Bulldogs during football season. His loud laugh, booming voice, and fun personality were key characteristics that many will remember. In 1996, he moved to Dalton, Georgia and later Lincoln, Maine while working for Wal-Mart as a store director. He was remarried in 2002 to his current wife, Beverly. They raised her four children Lee, Les, Megan and Greg. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and parents and his sister-in-law, Janelle Cardini (Kana), wife of his brother Nickey Kana, and son-in-law, Shawn Skelly. Fred is survived by his wife, Beverly of Lincoln, ME; sister, Betty Mocek and husband Michael of Ft Worth,TX and brother, Nickey Kana of Kerrville, TX; daughter, Cheri Hanley and husband, Chris, of Park Ridge, IL; son, Justin Kana and wife, Kelli, of Stillwater, OK; daughter, Alyssa Morton and husband, Chris, of Lone Grove, OK; step-son Lee Hand and wife, Sydney of VA; step-son Les Hand of VA; step-daughter, Megan McCain of ME; and step-son, Greg Hand of VA; grandchildren Sami Hunter and husband Colton; Cole Skelly, Brynli Tucker, Jocelyn Morton, Case Kana, Abby Hanley, Lucas Hand, Lauryn Hand, Landon Hand, Beckham Hand, Cierra McCain, Kaleb McCain, Koby McCain, Camden Hand, Ameliah Hand, Emerson Hand and one greatgranddaughter, Skye Blair Hunter, and two nephews, David and wife, Lisa, and Doug Mocek of Ft Worth, TX and his former wife, Linda Kana of Ardmore, OK.
