Having a blast: Lone Grove Band raising money with fireworks stand

Right beneath this article, you can read all about how shooting off fireworks is illegal within Ardmore City Limits. However, if you live outside the city or plan on celebrating with friends or relatives outside the city, you may want to consider heading west to buy yours.

Five miles west of Lone Grove at 20 Oak Creek Rd. in Wilson students from the Lone Grove Schools band are selling fireworks with all proceeds going to benefit the band program.

Band Booster Abbrah Renfroe said this is the second year the band has run the stand, but other booster clubs within the school have run it in the past and will run it in the future.

“We all just take turns and rotate out,” she said.

All the money raised will be used to purchase various things the band needs.

“This money will be used to help any of the band students to buy instruments and equipment for their instruments like reeds for clarinets,” Renfroe said. “We’ll also buy props for marching season and other things that might come up.”

Sales have been a little slow so far this season, but everyone is hoping they’ll pick up as Independence Day draws closer.

“The rain has been a bit of a damper,” she said. “But we’ve definitely sold a lot of sparklers. Everybody who’s come through has bought sparklers, and we’ve also sold quite a few Roman candles.”

The fireworks stand will be open on Thursday, July 3 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. They may also open on Saturday, July 5 to hold a sale depending on how much inventory they have left. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
