Flu shot season

The Carter County Health Department will have a free drive-thru Flu Vaccine Cline from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 25 at Ardmore Fire Station on Rockford Road. Participants are asked to wear short sleeve shirts and not have pets in the car. The clinic is for ages nine and older.

Fun for all

Save the date as Community Youth Services will host a Masquerade Ball at 6 p.m., Oct. 26 at the Harper & Copper Rooms. The evening will feature door prizes, a wine pull, silent auction, entertainment, a catered meal and more fun than you can imagine. Ticket details will be provided in the coming weeks.

Haunted evening in Gene Autry

The Gene Autry Volunteer Fire Department will host its 3rd Annual Halloween Carnival from 6 to 9 p.m., Oct. 26 at Tumbleweed Hall, located at 73 Prairie St. in Gene Autry. The evening will feature a costume contest at 8:30 p.m. for three different age categories long with a cake walk, pie in the face for the firefighter with the most donations, treats and games.

Truck or Treat

Truck or Treat will return to Main Street at 3:30 p.m., Oct. 31. Merchants will have candy for the kids and trucks will be lined up on Main Street for kids to see and enjoy. Dress up for the occasion to win a prize and have an awesome time doing so.

The art of self-defense

A class for women’s self-defense is scheduled from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Nov. 2 at the Ardmore Family YMCA. The class is open to women ages 16-and-up and is sponsored by First National Bank and Barnes Vision Clinic. Ardmore Police Department Sgt. Kevin Kropp and Sgt. Adam Eller will instruct the class. Both have backgrounds in defense tactics and martial arts. The class will cover surrounding awareness, fighting stances, recovering from falls, basic strikes with sharp punches, elbows and knees, defense against sharp objects and more. The cost is $50 per person.

United Way fundraiser

The 7th Annual Soup-er United Way Fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 4. Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma along with Campfire Heart of Oklahoma, Catholic Charities Ardmore South Central Oklahoma and The Family Shelter of Oklahoma are hosting the event. Soups include tomato, loaded potato, cowboy stew or chicken chili crack. Tickets are $10 with orders and picked up at Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, located at 14 E St. S.W. The Ardmore Elks 1906 Annual Spaghetti Day will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Nov. 7. Tickets are $8 with dine-in and to-go options. The lodge is located at 2526 S. Commerce in Ardmore.

Festival for the season

Save the date for the 2nd Annual Oklahoma Pecan Festival, which will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 in Depot Park. The event will begin with a Veterans Day Parade and service followed by a full day of activities that will include vendors, live music and a barbecue cookoff.

Exercise the brain

Ardmore Family Literacy will host its Spelling Bee Fundraiser from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Nov. 14 at Murray on Main Event Center in Ardmore. The cost is $65 per person or $500 for a table sponsor. Refreshments will be provided along with heavy hors d’oeuvres. There will also be a cash bar.
