Jury finds for county in Lakey lawsuit

A federal jury found the Carter County Sheriff in his Official Capacity was not responsible in the death of Jared Lakey.

The verdict was delivered in the lawsuit that was filed by the Estate of Jared Lakey, who died in 2019 after being tazed by former Wilson Police officers Brandon Dingman and Joshua Taylor 53 times.

The jury found the two officers will have to split a payment of $10 million to the estate. Both Dingman and Taylor are currently serving time after being found guilty of second-degree murder.

The trial began last week and ended Monday afternoon in the Eastern United States Federal Court in Muskogee.
