Breakfast will be taking place all day at the Colvert Center tomorrow, Thursday, April 24 as the Ardmore Kiwanis Club host their annual Pancake Day fundraiser.
Pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and a variety of beverages will be available from 7 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 to 7 p.m. All the food is provided by Prairie Kitchen, but the Kiwanis themselves will be cooking everything up. Sam Douglas serves as chairman of the event and has done so for many years.
Kiwanian Billy Bean said Pancake Day has been going on for more years than anyone can remember.
“The Ardmore Kiwanis were founded in 1920, and Pancake Day began sometime shortly after that,” Bean said. “The event is actually from Kiwanis International, so almost every club across the world hosts a Pancake Day.”
Bean said all the money raised during the event will stay right here in the community.
“We’re all about helping out the kids,” he said. “We have scholarships for Ardmore, Plainview, Dickson and Springer. We do Terrific Kids once a month at Lincoln School. We also support the FCA, the Boy Scouts, and the Southern Oklahoma Library Summer Reading Program.”
Bean has been a Kiwanian for 43 years and said his favorite aspect of the club is the camaraderie with other local businesspeople.
“I really enjoy working with fellow businesspeople to better our community and try to give back a little bit,”
The Kiwanis meet at noon on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at Café Alley.
Pancake Day will be held at the Colvert Center located at 503 W. Broadway in Ardmore. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
