Larry Neal Cavner, Sr. was born on March 29, 1946 to Ada Faye (Tynes) and R. B. Cavner in Ardmore, OK. He passed from this life at his home on April 15, 2022 at the age of 76.
Larry graduated from Dickson High School with the class of 1964. Upon graduation, he attended Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He enlisted and served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard. He worked several jobs before beginning his extensive career with the Ardmore Police Department on December 4, 1969, retiring a Captain in March of 1996. He then went on to serve as the Emergency Management Director for the city of Ardmore until the year 2000.
In 1969, Larry married Jowana Nall and from that union had two children, Larry Neal Cavner, Jr. and Paula Renae Tucker, both his life’s pride and joy.
Larry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, music, working with his hands, and was fascinated by mechanics and aeronautics. He and his brothers Ronald and Dwight worked together on countless creative projects. Using that “Cavner Ingenuity,” they gave life to many brilliant ideas, completed homes, helped one another, and persistently and cleverly fixed what most would give up on. His family could always count on him whenever they needed his help and he took great delight in being able to do so. In every endeavor, he always brought with him his (though at times inappropriate) hilariously witty sense of humor. Larry was absolutely beloved and adored by his family and his presence will be sorely missed. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and
R.B. Cavner; sisters Ellen McCabe and Jerry Tinder; and brothers Harvey Earl Cavner and Ronald Cavner.
He is survived by his son Larry Neal Cavner, Jr. and wife Stephanie, and their two children Alyssa and Mason; daughter, Paula Tucker and husband Jeff, and their two daughters, Taylor and Rebecca; his brother, Dwight Cavner and wife Mary Beth; his sister June Elisee; his sister-in-law Edna Cavner; his brother-inlaw Norwood Tinder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Larry Cavner will take place on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Craddock Memorial Chapel.
