Lonie Viola Newell Ferguson, 84, died Jan. 8, 2016, with her family by her side in Woodward, Okla. She was born April 4, 1931, in Trousdale, Okla., to John Buster Newell and Mable Lois Taylor Newell.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Ash Street Church of Christ of Wilson. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery.
On Feb. 14, 1953, she married Harold Lloyd Ferguson of Wilson. Together they lived in Wilson, Healdton, Ringling, Ratliff City, then eventually back to Wilson where they raised three children, Ann, Robert and Sammie.
After Harold’s death, Viola moved to Lone Grove, then decided she wanted to be closer to her children so she moved to Ashland, Kan., and then to Mooreland, Okla., where she resided at the time of her death.
Viola was the oldest of 10 children and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed quilting, antiquing, fishing and family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lois Newell; husband, Harold Ferguson; brothers, Buster, David and Bob Newell; and sister, Betty Turner, Ardmore.
Viola is survived by her sisters, Nancy Van Sickle, Los Angeles, Midge Freytag and her husband, Jim, Ardmore, and Ann Newell, Woodward, Okla.; brothers, John Newell and his wife Karen, Ardmore, and Bill Newell, Ardmore; her sisters-in-law, Leta Wheeler and Norma Ferguson of Wilson; her children, Ann Daily and husband, Jim, Robert Ferguson and his wife, Sherry and Sammie Smith and her husband, Mike; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at the Ash Street Church of Christ in Wilson with Jeff Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Hewitt Cemetery of Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
