Karla Johnson, 69, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, at the local hospital in Ardmore. Karla was born September 13, 1946, in Ardmore and had lived here all of her life.
A graduate of Dickson High School in 1964, she enjoyed playing basketball for DHS and set a state record for scoring the most points in a game. In 1963 Karla was the Basketball Homecoming Queen. Karla had been the bar manager at the Elks Lodge and previously at the Gusher Lounge. She and her late husband, Ralph Clark Lang had been owners of an Ardmore liquor store.
Karla enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and spending time with her friends.
Survivors include her three children, son, Brian Bishop, Ardmore, son, Denny Wells and his wife, Kenna Dotson, Ardmore, daughter, Julie Lang and her husband, Chris Franklin of Portland, Oregon; two grandchildren, Cheylo and Deagen Wells; brothers, James Johnson and Michael Johnson; sister, Judy Brown and husband, Rodger; only living aunt, Betty Spurlock Almon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Carl and Jackie (Spurlock) Johnson; her husband, Ralph Clark Lang; a brother, Martin Johnson; as well as a large number of beloved extended family and friends.
Karla was adored by so many and always provided endless love and support to those around her. She was a continuous example of strength and resilience, and a extraordinary example of resolve and character. She was very dear to our hearts and will always be remembered as the beautiful and vibrant soul she was.
A time of support for family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge.
