Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are rushing to Arkansas and Louisiana to assist those two states with flood recovery efforts.

Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma Disaster Relief Director Sam Porter said trained assessors and flood relief teams are on their way to Dermott and Crossett, Ark. and North Monroe, La.

In addition, the state’s laundry trailer also is on the way to North Monroe, along with a small feeding team.

“That is a total of 30 Oklahoma disaster relief team members in the flood zone today, and I have a feeling that before the week is over, we will need many more,” Porter said. “As you have seen on TV reports, this is the heaviest flooding Louisiana has seen in more than 100 years. That is saying something for a state that is covered in Swamps and river bottom land. It is truly statewide much like Oklahoma experienced last spring in our record rainfall.”
