A gun-toting Wagoner man was arrested Tuesday after he fired shots at a motorist on Interstate 35.

Carter County Sheriff Milton Anthony said Douglas E. Scott, 39, was taken into custody about 8 a.m. after the victim identified Scott as the man who fired shots at him in the southbound lanes of I-35 near Springer.

According to reports, the victim said he attempted to “get out of the way” when he saw Scott driving erratically behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Eclipse. The victim told lawmen when the Mitsubishi got trapped behind a semi he took the opportunity to go around Scott.

“I didn’t let him in and I’m guessing it frustrated him, cause the Eclipse passed and shot at me,” the victim reported after he pulled off at an I-35 truck stop in Ardmore.

Evidence of two shots that hit the body of the victim’s vehicle were recovered, as well as a third shot fired into a tire.

Douglas was located and identified at a nearby interstate fast food restaurant and taken into custody. An automatic handgun was seized from his vehicle.

Ardmore police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers assisted in the investigation.

Douglas was booked into the Carter County Detention Center pending charges of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony and transporting a firearm without a permit.

The case is expected to be reviewed by the district attorney’s office today.
