The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was requested to investigate the death of a Carter County jail inmate early Thursday morning.
A jailer found the man unresponsive in his cell, in which he was the sole occupant, around 2 a.m. Thursday. The man was then transported to a local hospital where medical personnel pronounced him dead, according to an OSBI press release.
No signs of trauma were apparent on his body. The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, the release says.
OSBI said agents are in the process of interviewing those at the jail to gather a much information as possible. The inmate’s next of kin has not yet been located for notification of the death. Once notification has been made, the man’s name will be released.
