MARIETTA — Services for Maxine (Hicks) Reed, 89, of Marietta, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, in the Flanagan­Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta, with Dewayne Self and Angela Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Jimtown Cemetery, Jimtown, under the direction of Flanagan­-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Born Oct. 26, 1926, to the late Earl Robert and Jesse Lee (Hallum) Hicks, in Jimtown, she passed away Wednesday, June 29, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta, following a brief illness.
The oldest of six children, Maxine was raised on a farm in Jimtown where she helped with the chores. She attended school in Jimtown and was a graduate of Leon High School. On Oct. 30, 1948, she married the late James Auston Reed in Gainesville, Texas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. The couple made their home in Marietta where they raised their two children, Steve and Monica. Owners of the Texaco Service and Repair Station, located on the southeast corner of Highway 32 and I­35, when the couple sold the station, Auston became a long haul truck driver. Maxine soon followed him in that profession, driving for almost 10 years. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Maxine enjoyed traveling, loved watching her grandchildren in their sporting events, and from her youth until she passed away, enjoyed being with her cousins, as well as spending time with her great-granddaughter, Paisley Kaye.
Survivors include a daughter, Monica Reed, Ardmore; a son, Steve Reed and his wife, Cindy, Lone Grove; a granddaughter, Paige Newell and her husband, Randall and their daughter Paisley, Lone Grove; a grandson, Chase Reed, also of Lone Grove; three sisters­-in-­law, Wanda Hicks­-Miller, Ponca City, Virginia Hicks, Marietta, and Linda Hicks, Lone Grove; and a host of nieces, nephews, great­-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her beloved cat, Troubles.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chad Lewis Reed and Blair Reed; a great-­grandchild, Auston Gage Reed; her sister, Peggy McEntire; and brothers, Earl Ray Hicks, Glyn Edward Hicks, Burney Hicks and Gary Keith Hicks.
Casket bearers are nephews.
A time of visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
