he Oklahoma State Department of Health  reminds residents that heat-related illness can range from heat cramps and heat exhaustion to hyperthermia (overheating) and heat stroke. Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to cool itself sufficiently, and it often results in severe organ damage or even death. 

The OSDH offers this tip for preventing a heat-related illness:

Stay hydrated. Increase your fluid intake to two to four glasses (16-32 ounces) of cool fluids every hour. If you are on water pills or restricted fluid limit, consult your physician first. Avoid liquids that contain alcohol or large amounts of sugar; they cause you to lose more body fluid. Very cold drinks can cause stomach cramps and should be avoided as well.
