Statistics show renters are at a greater risk of financial loss due to fire and theft than homeowners. However, a 2015 poll by the Insurance Information Institute found that only 40 percent of renters had insurance.
Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance is providing the following information to help Oklahomans understand renters insurance:
Know your coverage. When renting a property, ask about renters insurance. In most cases, your landlord’s insurance only covers damage to the building itself, not any damage to your personal belongings, yourself or any guests. Renters insurance with personal liability will better protect you and your personal items in the event of loss or damages.
