ROOSEVELT — Louise Smith, 91, of Altus and formerly a longtime resident of Roosevelt, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at the Plantation Village Memory Care in Altus.
Louise was born in Cooperton, on Sept. 14, 1924, to her parents, Benjamin Harrison Williams and Rachel (Haley) Williams. She graduated class of 1942 from Cooperton High School and attended Cameron College in Lawton for one year. While at Cameron, she met the love of her life, Perry Merron Smith and they were married on June 12, 1943, in
Lawton and they enjoyed over 59 years of marriage together before Perry’s death in 2002.  As a young married couple, they lived in Cooperton and then Perry took a job with Chrysler Motor Corporation in Detroit, but Louise and Perry got home sick and moved back to southwest Oklahoma where they resided in Cooperton for many years. Louise had several jobs, she worked for the Hobart Coop, the lunchroom for Cooperton Schools, McNutt Implement in Hobart where she ran the parts department. Later she worked for the Census Bureau and drove all over Oklahoma and she also worked for the Department of Commerce.  She was a member of the First Baptist Churches in Cooperton and Roosevelt and Louise was a big collector of Betty Boop memorabilia. In her spare time, she enjoyed country dancing, sewing, she would make clothes for everyone in her family and she made western shirts for all the employees at McNutt Implement in Hobart. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed working word puzzles but most of all, Louise treasured time spent with her family and her grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Dale Williams; Louise is survived by one son, Bobby Dale Smith of Lawton; two daughters, Bonnie Sue Pickett and husband, Kenneth of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Merron Louise McCormack and Louis Hilliard of Ardmore; one brother, Bobby Hugh Williams; one sister, Elouise “Sue” Mace Granger; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
The family received friends at visitation from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Lowell­Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Roosevelt, with Pastor Tim Tutton officiating. Interment followed at the Roosevelt Cemetery under the direction of Lowell­-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Roosevelt in honor of Louise Smith.
