The Tulsa men’s soccer team ended exhibition play with a 3-2 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.

“We started the game well and created some good chances,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  “We did look a little disjointed with all the changes, but the good thing is we got a win and got to play a lot of guys.  Heading forward we need to incorporate some of our guys back into the lineup after having a tough week of injuries.  Our possession needs to get better for sure, but defensively we’ve looked pretty good.”

Lelsey Nchanji put TU on the board with 9:28 ticked off the clock as he picked up a forward pass from Zack Stavrou, went one-on-one with the keeper and scored from eight yards out.

Matthew Puig added a second goal for the Golden Hurricane 10 minutes later as he scored on a through pass from Alejandro Chavez.  Stavrou added his own goal as he headed in a corner kick taken by Ray Saari in the 25th minute to give Tulsa a 3-0 lead at the break.

In the second frame, UCA scored two goals, one off a corner kick in the 55th minute by Niklas Brodacki and one from Wes Carson in the 76th minute.

Tulsa had a 12-10 lead in shots, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, and both teams had two corner kicks.

Puig had a team-best four shots, three of which were on goal, while David Viox added two attempts.  Jake McGuire played the first half in goal and had two saves, while Matt Karasinski played in the second frame.

The Golden Hurricane will open the regular season at CSUN on Friday, August 26.  Game time is set for 9:30 pm Central in Northridge, Calif.
