Editor’s Note: This is an ongoing Q&A profile series introducing new teachers that have joined Ardmore City Schools.

Julie Aultman

Position: Math Teacher

School: Ardmore High School

Years in education: First year; Previously taught adult classes at SOTC in 2003.

Q: What made you decide to work in schools?

Math is my passion. I left behind a career in the oil and gas industry to pursue that passion. I was fortunate to have an amazing math teacher in high school, and I hope to be that kind of teacher to my students this year.

Q: What is your favorite part of doing your job?

My favorite part of teaching mathematics is the moment when a student’s face lights up with understanding. Many students have an irrational fear of math. Once they realize they are capable of mastering the concepts and succeeding in my class, they become enthusiastic and engaged in the subject. It’s a beautiful transformation.

Q: What kind of impact do you want to make in your students’ lives?

I hope to inspire all my students to love mathematics as much as I do. I believe every single student that comes into my classroom has the ability and potential to succeed in mathematics, regardless of their perceived limitations, i.e., not being “good at math”. My goal is to provide the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need for that success. I’m looking forward to a great year at Ardmore High School!
