MARIETTA — Services for Carroll Wayne Montgomery, 80, of Marietta, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, in the Eastside Baptist Church of Marietta with Lawrence Anderson officiating assisted by Brad Baker. Interment in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville Community, will follow under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Mr. Montgomery was born Sept. 19, 1936, in the Eastman Community of Love County, the son of William Millard “Bill” Montgomery and Elsie Lou Willis Montgomery. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, at his residence.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Carroll graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1954 and on June 12 of that year married Lorene Nipp in Gainesville, Texas. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office for 36 years as a mail carrier and clerk. After his retirement in 1995, Carroll became a licensed realtor, a job he enjoyed as long as his health permitted. He was always involved in community activities which included coaching both of his sons’ little league teams. An avid OU fan, he also enjoyed gardening, coin collecting, and watching westerns, especially John Wayne. Carroll also loved family gatherings, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and participating in the men’s fellowship breakfasts. A man of great faith, Carroll was a member of the Marietta Assembly of God. He will be remembered as a kind, sweet, loving man who was never heard to say anything bad about anyone.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Sheryl Lynn Harris; son, Gregory Wayne Montgomery; great-grandson, Samuel Wayne Harris; and two brothers, Harold Montgomery and Gene Montgomery.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorene of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Ali Montgomery of Celina, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Bronwyn and Jackie Carter of Marietta; son-in-law, Randall Harris and wife, Liz of Ardmore; daughter-in-law, Sue Montgomery of Corinth, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Sue Montgomery of Mannsville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Billie Ward of Sivells Bend, Texas and Jane and Harold Willingham of Overbrook; aunt, Marge Langford of Ardmore; 12 grandchildren, Sam Harris, Jessica and Tim Johnson, Kelsi and Corey Flugum, Mathilde Montgomery, Kate Schmiege, Gust Schmiege, Josh Yates and Jeanna Yates, and Cameron and Casey Yates; and 11 great-grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Kaylynn Johnson, Emma Flugum, Zoey Flugum, Kai Flugum, Will Harris, Angel Harris, Carsyn Yates, Carter Yates, Sara Strobbe and Jacob Strobbe.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Tim Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Corey Flugum, Gust Schmiege, Josh Yates, Cameron Yates and Carter Yates. Honorary bearers will be brothers-in-law, Harold Willingham, Clyde Nipp, C.P. Nipp, Gene Nipp, Donnie Nipp, John Nipp, Curtiss Nipp, Bobby Westmoreland and Warren Williams.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
